Hello church family. Due to the issues resulting from the recent COVID-19 virus, please see the below letter from our church pastor. All services are cancelled through the month of March.
Pastor Todd Harker, New Beginning Community Church, 03/14/2020
My Dear Church Family,
In 1 Peter 5:2, Peter tells pastors to “shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you.” I take this admonition seriously. It is a joy to be a shepherd, your shepherd. A shepherd, at times, must make extremely difficult decisions for the flock. The COVID -19 spreading throughout the world has led to having to make one of these difficult decisions.
After much discussion, prayer and gathering all the information I could gain, I have asked our Elders to do something unprecedented in my 30 years of ministry. I have asked them to cancel all meetings, small groups, Sunday school and church services through March. Even typing these words seem ridiculous but we are living uncharted times. I believe keeping our people safe for these three weeks is far greater then stay open and wish we would have cancelled. You are my primary concern.
This does not mean we will stop being a church. I am in the process now of meeting with a group of people that will help me to either live stream our services or produce a recording made of my message and worship via our YouTube account. We will keep you posted on this once a decision has been made.
Though we are cancelling our ministries for these three weeks, we are not stopping our ministry. Our missionaries around the world and our ministries at home still need to be supported. As we will offer our worship services online, an act of worship is the giving of tithes and offerings. Please follow Wendy’s and my example and remain faithful in your giving to our church. You can join us in giving either by mail or online at NBCCPARKER.com.
I believe this will eventually pass. Until it does, be faithful in praying for our leaders, our medical professionals and those who have been deeply impacted by this illness spreading throughout our planet. Take time to study God’s Word and grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Please, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” – 1 Peter 3:15. Also, amid all the hoarding of certain items of food and necessities, please follow this principle, “Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others – Phil 2:4.
Know this. You are loved not only by our Lord and Savior but by everyone else in the church family. If you need anything at all, please reach out to a deacon, an elder or a pastor. We are blessed to be able to minister to you.
In His Service,
