Scripture Emphasis:

Phil 2:4 “Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

The early church was a motley crew populated with Jews, Gentiles and men and women slaves.  They came from all over the world thanks to Roman influence.   For the first time, all these groups would assemble with a common purpose – the Lord Jesus Christ.  Because of the variety of people there would no doubt arise some interpersonal issues.  With pen in hand, Paul addresses several key elements of keeping harmony within the body of Christ.

1) When someone is new ___________ them – Rom. 15:7-9

  • The command is pretty ___________
  • When people come to worship, they should be accepted without ______________
  • When people come to learn, they should be __________________

2) When something is out of sorts __________ with each other – Col. 3:12-14

  • The second command tends to be a little ____________
  • There are times when ____________ is needed – Lit. “to put up with”
  • This command is ________________ based upon a certain reality
  • We need to dress ________________ to bear with – 3:7,9

3) When relationships are messed up _______________ one another – Col. 3:13-14

  • The last command can sometimes be very ____________
  • Forgiveness is the greatest ________________ tool I can use
  • Forgiveness is the best _______________ of the greatest love
  • Forgiveness is the greatest __________________ within relationships
